What difference does design make?

The client asked for an opinion. The reply was: "Good effort, just needs sharpening, tightening up and a bit of life adding". Lots of small adjustments to this website has made a big difference to the impression it gives. It is still a design in progress with some details yet to address. Development is incremental as the organisations funding allows. Improvements include:

Correctly aligning elements on web pages in all browsers. This helps to create a more professional impression, reflecting their use of experienced industry professionals and partners to deliver their programmes.

Displaying well in older browsers in order to cater for an audience who might not have the budget for the latest technology.

The organisations best assets (their videos) are more prominent and efficiently 'stream', rather than download.

The navigation is clearly labelled, the structure of the pages more defined and text is in more inviting quantites.

The company is also saving money since implementing a freeware alternative for their gallery pages, replacing a monthly subscription facility.
